GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE
WORLD FEDERATION OF THE DEAF |
|
Friday, July 18 – Saturday, July 19, 9:00 – 18:00
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
(GA) is the highest decision-making body of
the WFD. Every Ordinary Member (OM – national association of Deaf people)
has the right to send up to two delegates to attend the GA, which convenes
every four years in conjunction with the World Congress and is the
‘official meeting’ of the WFD. These delegates must be Deaf, according to
the WFD Statutes. Among other things, the GA elects an executive Board for
WFD, receives reports on WFD activities and finances, and approves the WFD
plan of action for the next four years. The GA will take place on July
18-19 and is wholly in International Sign. Voice interpreters work for the
first day only, to provide access for special invited guests, but no sign
language interpreters are provided and the second day does not have voice
interpretation. All observers are welcome. |

GREEN MONTRÉAL: BIODOME AND BOTANICAL GARDENS
Saturday, July 26, 2003, 14:30 - 18:00
COST (adults & children):
$68 CAD
The Biodome takes visitors on a voyage through 4 different
ecosystems of the Americas: the tropical rainforest, the Laurentian forest, the
marine world of the St. Lawrence River Valley and the icy polar extremes of the
Arctic and Antarctic. This unique living collection of over 200 plants and 4200
animals, created to encourage the study and appreciation of our global
environment, is housed in the former velodrome of the 1976 Summer Olympic Games.
The Botanical Garden is second in size only to London’s Kew
Gardens and boasts over 26,000 species and varieties of plants in 10 greenhouses
and 30 special gardens. Visits will include the delightful 23-hectare Japanese
Garden, displaying the largest bonsai collection outside Asia, and the
magnificent Chinese Garden, featuring the "Dream Lake" and a fabulous display of
penjing. Several traditional pavilions, constructed from materials imported from
China, enhance this special setting.
